Parenting Programs

CatholicCareNT provides a range of Parenting Programs, including Circle of Security, Tuning into Kids, Turning into Teens, 123 Magic, and My Kids and me.

Circle of Security

Circle of Security is an 8-week program focusing on the early intervention models to increase attachment and security between parents, carers and their children.

Tuning into Kids

Tuning in to Kids is for parents of children aged between 5 and 12 years of age. It is an evidence-based parenting program that focuses on the emotional connection between parents and children. Specifically, the program teaches parents skills in emotion coaching, which is to recognise, understand and respond to children’s emotions in an accepting, supportive way. This approach helps the child to understand and manage their emotions.

Magic 1, 2, 3

1-2-3 Magic is for parents with children aged 2 – 12 years of age. It divides the parenting responsibilities into three areas: controlling negative behaviour, encouraging good behaviour, and strengthening the child-parent relationship. The program seeks to encourage gentle, but firm, discipline without arguing, yelling, or spanking.

My Kids and Me:

My Kids and Me is a seven-week course for parents whose children are at risk of being removed, or have been placed in care either permanently or where reunification is part of the case plan. The course aims to increase reflective functioning and improve relationships between parents whose children are in statutory care and their children, carers, caseworkers and other professionals who may be involved. The course is psycho-educational in nature, which allows for therapeutic “moments of change”. The course is highly experiential and uses metaphors and imagery to speak about things that are often too painful and difficult to put into words.
